Our Corporation
Administration: The Petit-Témis trail is run by two non-profit corporations that are each responsible for a certain part of the trail. The Northern section covers a distance of 69 km that runs from Rivière-du-Loup to the intersection of Route 232 in Cabano. This part of the path is administered by the Corporation sentier Rivière-du-Loup / Témiscouata (the Rivière-du-Loup / Témiscouata Trail Corporation). The Southern section has a length of 65 km and goes from the intersection of Route 232 in Cabano to the town of Edmundston, New Brunswick. This portion of the trail is under the authority of the Société d’aménagement de la rivière Madawaska et du lac Témiscouata (the Society for the Management of the Madawaska River and Lake Témiscouata).
The Rivière-du-Loup / Témiscouata Trail Corporation was created in 1992 mainly in order to oversee the establishment of the Linear Park that we now know as the Petit-Témis Trail. Today, this organization is responsible for the maintenance, development and management of 69 km of the Petit-Témis trail, in addition to the oversight and upkeep of 73 km of the Route verte de l’Estuaire, a provincial Green Trail that passes through the County (MRC) of Rivière-du-Loup. The Corporation’s mandate is defined by the MRCs of Rivière-du-Loup and Témiscouata together, working through a regional council of local mayors, tourist services representatives, bicycle clubs and snowmobile associations.
At the hieght of the summer season, the Corporation employs around 12 employees for the various tasks of overseeing and maintaining the trail, welcoming and informing visitors, and providing regular bicycle patrols.
We have a number of partnerships and benefactors. The trail not only enjoys being Route verte #8, a part of the province’s Green Trail system, but also forms a portion of the Trans Canada Trail. Our trail’s operation and improvement have been made possible by the continuing support of the municipalities of Rivière-du-Loup and Témiscouata. Over the last few years, we have benefitted from the financial support given to the Green Trail programme by the provincial Ministry of Transport. Furthermore, we highlight the contributions of regional public associations such as the Association touristique du Bas-Saint-Laurent (the Tourist Association of Bas-Saint-Laurent), the Office du Tourisme et des congrès de Rivière-du-Loup (the Office of Tourism and Congress of Rivière-du-Loup), and the Centre local de la développement des MRC de Rivière-du-Loup et de Témiscouata (the Regional development council of the MRCs of Rivière-du-Loup and Témiscouata). In addition, we are increasingly coming to engage with private partners from the tourist industry, from bicycle shops, and from other enterprises whose support and generosity we appreciate immensely. Finally, we must also give our thanks to those visitors of the bike trail who choose to purchase their annual Vignette Bike Passes. Thank you to everyone!
